Our History
 |
The name "ImaRx" is derived from Imaging and pharmaceuticals (Rx). ImaRx Pharmaceutical Corp. (IPC), was founded in 1991 to develop diagnostic contrast agents for radiology. IPC conducted the early research and development work on 3 products that became FDA approved diagnostic contrast agents: LumenHance® and SonoRx® (licensed to Bracco) and Definity® (licensed to DuPont and now owned by Lantheus Medical Imaging). IPC, including the rights to Definity, was sold to Dupont in 1999.
The company that became ImaRx Therapeutics, Inc. was formed during that transaction to retain the scientific team and all intellectual property outside the field of non-targeted ultrasound imaging. Our scientific team's early research and development of ultrasound contrast agents provided the foundation for our microbubble technology that is the basis for our SonoLysis™ program. Today, ImaRx Therapeutics is focused on developing therapies for stroke and other vascular disorders using our proprietary microbubble technology to treat occlusions and the resulting ischemia.
